I really loved reading this book! I couldn't tell you how many times I was laughing at all the outlandish situations these women had gotten themselves into, and some of their antics leave that left me in stitches! I didn't know that tennis was such a competitive sport among the Austin elite. But women being women, they can be mean and bitchy to each other whether it's at work or in competition. I just couldn't believe how they would taint the food and water given to the visiting team! And boy, does the fur fly when they happen to meet accidently. One woman on J Morgan McGrady team bumped into a woman from another arch rival team by the name of Sindy (that's with an S) at a high-end hair salon/spa to have some nasty words with in the women's changing room on who is the better team. After her appointment, she finds her clothes are missing from her locker, also she finds her whole SUV covered with maxi-pads! Funny, but mean, when it's NOT happening to you! I'll tell you one thing, these women can swear worse than a drunken sailor when they get angry, so be prepared for some vulgar language. Some of the slang words that were used in the story are highly descriptive but very inventive. I love all the women on It's A Ball team and would be happy to call them my girlfriends. They were a great bunch of fun-loving, educated women who know how to have a good time and wins some tennis matches with a Roach Coach in tow! I can't wait for the next book by J. It A Ball eBook J Morgan McGrady Reviews
First of all, I never knew how much middle-aged women in Austin were such diehard tennis players! I was definitely glued to the stories of these women as they formed the tennis team “It’s A Ball” to play at the Cedarway Country Club in Austin, Texas. Their main rivals are “The Alley Cats” who are all a bunch of snotty Stepford Wives. Was it art that imitates life or the other way around? Regardless, “The Alley Cats” will lower themselves to win at any means possible.
The “It’s A Ball” team consists of the following players Mavolyn, Della, Starr Noel, Norma, Inari, Beulah Rose, Sonia, and the author. One of my favorite scenes is when Starr pushes Mavolyn to run for Senator in the 24th District. Starr challenges the Attorney General that women are capable of holding office just like men. I couldn’t help cheering her on! However, I wasn’t so enthused when Starr bet “The Alley Cats” $8,000 and then $16,000 that “It’s A Ball” would beat them for the title. From Sonia’s God-fearing words from Scripture to Inari’s interesting habit of picking up dead armadillos from the road, I couldn’t help laughing and rooting for these women!

It's A Ball is a true enough story that is funny, entertaining, raunchy, insightful, and filled with antics that would make even the most mischevious person blush.
Throughout the book, which the author says are fictitious, we follow a group of tennis ladies that set out to become the queens of the country club. Through her own words we learn of the cut throat recruiting antics that leave some women passed out on the lawn. We learn of the smack talk that goes on during a tennis match. We learn more about the seedy world of Country Club Tennis than we had ever know was possible.
The book was able to keep my interest long enough to get through some of the less entertaining moments, although they were few and far between. This book was also able to make me certain to never cross the path of the reigning Country Club Tennis Queen.
Pick up this novel. It will have you laughing in shock and disbelief until your sides hurt.
Where to begin? Let me start by saying I loved reading this book. Twice I actually woke up my daughter from her nap because I was laughing out loud. J. Morgan tells us her hilarious experience of starting a brand new recreational tennis team for the intense Austin league. Now, I don't know if I could have handled her tryouts as a whole, but I would definitely want to try one (or two) of those Snot Slingin' Martinis. I feel like hanging out with her and the It's a Ball team would be a fabulous experience; you never know when you will have nail polish thrown at your head, come across a “baked” goods sale at the country club, or who you'll run into at pilates. Even though its a fictitious book, I had fun reading along and imagining that this was all happening in real life. I was happy to see that rumor-has-it.net exists and can't imagine if a website like that existed for the town gossip. Speaking of which, I will now keep my eye out for three stacked rocks at the end of mailboxes. Overall a great read. I loved her humor and would definitely read another book by her. "It's a Ball" was is definitely the funniest book I have had the pleasure of reading. You might think it's a book all about tennis, but it is not it is so much more! I absolutely loved the dictionary at the end of the book, and have even incorporated some of those words into my daily language. J.McGrady has an astounding way of capturing the audience with her novel, from the first page I was laughing. The novel is basically about two women starting their own tennis league to compete in the Austin League championship. After they find their perfect teammates by way of martinis and a wishing wand the rest of the book is about their trials and tribulations as a new team. Although these friends/teammates would've probably never found each other is it hadn't been for tennis, I am sure glad they did because McGrady was able to write this comedic novel. Any adult would love this book, especially any that have a history of tennis.

I couldn't put it down. This book is laugh-out-loud funny. It will probably be the most humorous book you read this year. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
Funny and entertaining! I'm a tennis player and found myself relating to her stories in this book about fellow opponents! LOL
