5 out of 5 stars!!! By reading the book summary on the authors website, at first I wasn't sure that I would be into this book. However, I am very happy that I gave this book a chance!! The banter & chemistry between Monica and Eric is charming and delightful to read!! You can't but route for the two to stay together!! Plus, the secondary characters from both of their lives was great to read about .... from the drama in acting to the male talk in the locker rooms!!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

I absolutely loved this book. I have read all her others and have yet to be truly disappointed. I loved Eric in Chasing Stanley and was thrilled to see him get his own book. I thought this book had a good plot line and allowed the reader to get a good feel for the character development as both Eric and Monica were fairly shallow on the surface. The soap opera story lines were also great and appealed to the part of me that loves over the top story lines. I felt this was another winner in the series and worth the read! I cannot wait to read her next novel!!
I really liked this book. I loved the minor characters. Martin continues to weave past characters in her books and its great to see what they are up to.
I really like the idea of the sporto-romance. Gorgeous, athletic men and the smart women who can bring them to heel. Nice, right? The fact is, I haven't read one done right. At least not yet.
There were elements of this book I liked--some of the dialogue was humorous (some quite cheesy), and the characters completely unlikeable. The main hero (GOD! I can't even remember his NAME!) was...well, a little slow. Perhaps that makes him more realistic? A stupid pro-athlete is probably quite authentic, it just didn't make him terribly attractive to me. The heroine, Monica, was beautiful, lacking in self-confidence and such a shrew I couldn't fathom why the hero even wanted to get to know her further.
BUT...I did laugh out loud in few different parts which is always a plus for me. There is one particularly touching scene where the hero is trying to woo Monica with a heartfelt poem he has written. Imagine the kind of tripe a (brain cell deficient) pro-athlete might come up with and you'll have some idea of the hilarity involved with this poem. Also, Monica's old friend Gloria is awesome! An aging actress, with such a spitfire soul I almost wished she was me, and I was her. She totally rocks. Now, if Power Play were written with a heroine like THAT...that is a book I could really get behind.
I did take one star off because at one point the hero (again, I cannot for the life of me remember the guy's name and I literally finished reading 10 minutes ago) says to his brother--"Don't be such a [...]". Seriously. I almost couldn't believe what I had read. Look, people I love and respect are homosexuals so perhaps I am more aware of stuff like this but c'mon. This slur really pulled me out of the story and just plain made me wince.
Overall, I would read more by the author, but I will definitely get the sample sent to me beforehand.
Cheers!
I never read her books before now I will have to read them. All great characters and fun storyline. Thanks really enjoyed it!
In this book a hockey player is a jerk to the star of a day time drama. At least that is the beginning of this story. There are many twists and turns to the plot which leads to a happy ending.
Another great read. Deirdre Martin creates such wonderful characters, with super dialogue. This story, the romance between an soap opera star and a hockey player, reminds readers of some of the other players who have met their true love, but stands alone.
YES the hero was an ass with what he said but it wasn't THAT bad. Monica was acting like he banged her best friend in her bed and all over her sheets.
She was a total loser. She didn't call Eric up until SHE needed him to stroke her ego after she had a bad day at work. Luckily she didn't reach him.
I don't know about this book. Ms. Martin made the hero a total punk. He wasn't alpha or beta male.
I don't understand the need to emasculate the hero to make the heroine look good. At first the lengths Eric went to prove his love for Monica was real was sweet. Then it became debasing and he was like a neutered dog, NOT a man at all. It was just too much and the heroine TRULY did have a heart of stone for continually brushing him off.
She's disgustingly awful and he's WAY too good for her. Him flying out in the middle out the night when she calls needing him is the mark of a REAL man and she's totally undeserving of it. I've disliked and been annoyed with heroine's in the past but this is the FIRST time I wish this book was a tragedy and that Monica was killed in some gruesome way. She's a waste of fictional space and just such a mean spirited, conceited, awful awful biotch!
Then she continually asks him to help her and he's just SO damn weak. That's not real love, that's being a leech and he's a dumba$$ letting her leech off him. I'm never read such a disgusting heroine. I can't see how ANYONE could NOT see how she was leeching off him. When she needs HIM to benefit her career slump he does it no questions asked. When he continually begged and pleaded and made a damn fool of himself to get her back because he loved her AND to help his career she was a cold hearted Devil and couldn't be bothered
This book is sickening and making me finally want to take a break from reading romance novels because it's making my stomach churn and my arms ache (a sign that I'm extremely sad or angry) and right now I'm BOTH!
This book isn't slow to start. It started good and keeps steady but the heroine is just effing AWFUL! I WISH I could curse in this review because she deserves it all and she's a freaking fictional character.
She didn't deserve all the grand gestures. She deserved to catch a nasty staph infection and die a slow and painful death.
5 out of 5 stars!!! By reading the book summary on the authors website, at first I wasn't sure that I would be into this book. However, I am very happy that I gave this book a chance!!
