I love KA. She is my favorite romance novelist. But this book--though sexy and funny and wonderful IN PARTS-- ultimately leaves you majorly bummed out because the POV of the deceased wife throughout the story ruins what should be magical moments between the H and h (or the h and the H's kids). Knowing that the ghost Fiona learns through watching the H and the h that she wasn't her husband's passion or true love is sad. As a reader, how can you celebrate the good moments between the H and h when it is filtered through the dead wife's ever-growing awareness that she was not THE ONE for her husband? And the ending emphasizes Fiona at the expense of the h who deserves her own precious BIG moments with her stepchildren. Unlike some romance novels where the new love cannot compete with the H's deceased old love, this shows an H realizing the new love was THE ONE all along --as the ghost wife watches, vacillating between her own pain and relief that her family is in good hands. It feels awful...and the ending takes it further and the Elle is usurped by Fiona completely. It makes the HEA feel hollow.
I would give this a 2, but KA is always entertaining so the score is higher. But I wish I hadn't read it. It lingers in a bad way

Fairytale Come Alive Ghosts and Reincarnation Book 4 edition by Kristen Ashley Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Fairytale Come Alive was such a wonderful and magical book! It took me on one he!! of a roller coaster ride of emotions. I felt sorrow and heartbreak, concern and frustration, happiness and anger, but most of all undying love. The love between Prentice and Elle was so strong that the pain they went through genuinely hurt my heart. I could feel it as I read the pages. However I fell in love with Jason and Sally so I understood why things happened the way they did. I adored Fiona and felt for her as well, at the same time admiring her.
I laughed and smiled so many times in this story, then the next thing I knew, I’d be crying and holding my breath. I worked myself to death right alongside Fiona trying to get these two fixed. Prentice was such a strong man and once he learned the truth, he was determined to hold on. Elle had seen so much sadness in her life, that she had a hard time imagining she could ever deserve happiness. Jason and Sally, the unconditional love they gave Elle, the deep love she returned, so beautifully sweet. The secondary characters were all good too, especially Elle's best friends Mikey and Annie.
I absolutely love Kristen Ashley books, many of which I have read a number of times. This is one I will definitely be re-reading and one I have moved to my all time favorite book list.
The way this story was written proves amazing depth and pure goodness on behalf of the author. I don't believe I've ever laughed and cried so much while reading a story, and I'm a seriously avid reader. There was a review I read prior to purchasing this book which described the author as being insensitive to write a book from the perspective of a deceased wife and mother regarding the reconnection of her widowed husband and his first love. Normally, I would have avoided the book after such a review, but because this was Kirsten Ashley, I knew better. All I have to say to that reviewer is this... I'm guessing you've never experienced the kind of intense, never yielding, unconditional love that allows you to put the very happiness of the person or people you love above anything and everything else. If you had experienced the power of that kind of true love, you would clearly be able to empathize with the ghost and understand her need to see her family happy. Her story was not told to make us choose between the two very lovable woman, but instead to fall in love with both of them and the family they so unselfishly shared. I know if it were me, the most important thing would be for someone to love my family as strongly as I did, to take away their pain and make them happy. That would be more than enough to overpower any jealousy, regret and hurt. This I believe was clearly demonstrated in Kristen's writing and her portrayal of the utmost selfless characters.
I enjoyed Fairytale Come Alive. It is book 4 of the Ghosts and Reincarnation series and it focuses on the Ghost part of the series. This book is a second chance love with a fairytale spin. It is about Isabella "Bella" Austin Evangelista and Prentice "Pren" Cameron. Bella and Pren were in love when they were younger and got engaged. When Bella's father found out, he put an immediate end to it and ensured they were kept apart...countries apart... but Pren never knew what happened and thought that Bella was just playing him and that she never really cared for him in the first place. Pren goes on to marry Fiona and have two children with her. Fiona ends up dying and a year later, after 20 years apart, Pren and Bella reunite when their best friends marry each other. Things do not start out well and most of the town hates Bella for what she did to Pren 20 years prior and for not being there when her best friend was in a terrible accident and in the hospital. Some are extremely vocal about it.
This book is about how Fiona, as a ghost, tries to meddle to get Pren and Bella back together for the sake of her family and her love for them. Since she can't be there for her family, she feels that Bella is the next best thing. This book is about healing deep personal wounds and relationships. This book is about love. And lastly, this book is about fairytales, as in A Scottish Fairytale Come Alive.
Fairytale Come Alive is told in 3rd person and the POV alternates between Prentice, Bella, and Fiona.
There is a lot of push and pull in this book with most of the push being from Bella as she constantly tries to push away Pren and run away because she doesn't think she is good enough and she thinks that she will just make life worse for Pren and the kids.
Fairytale Come Alive is a bit long. Probably because it seems like the story peaks and then resolves multiple times over with a new issue or twist arising each time it seems like everything is going to be good.
For the most part, I liked the main characters and the secondary characters. I did struggle a bit with Bella because she was a 40 year old woman still under her father's thumb and intimidation. I felt like she should have been able to deal with that sooner in life, especially since she was seeing a therapist. The kids were super cute and I loved how Bella was with the children. I also really liked Annie and Mikey, Bella's two best friends since college.
The big twist at the end was a bit contrived for me but it worked out okay, I suppose.
Overall, this was a very entertaining book and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I am giving this book 3.5-4 stars. This whole series has been really good so far. I am looking forward to starting the 5th book in the series.
Audible I added the whispersync narration to this kindle book. The narrator did a really good job with the accents. It was fun to listen to.
